The Redesigned 2027 Kia Seltos: What’s New in the Second Generation

The Redesigned 2027 Kia Seltos: What’s New in the Second Generation

The Kia Seltos arrived in Canada in 2020 and quickly became one of the brand’s most popular models. For 2027, it moves into its second generation with a full redesign. It is bigger, it offers more technology and driver assistance features, and it adds a new hybrid powertrain to the lineup.

If you have been curious about what changed, this friendly walkthrough covers the highlights: design, space, technology, safety features and the three powertrains. By the end, you will know exactly what sets the new Seltos apart from the one before it.

A Bigger, Bolder Design

The 2027 Seltos is longer, taller and wider than the previous generation, and its wheelbase grows by 60 mm. That extra length between the wheels is where most of the added cabin space comes from.

The styling takes a more modern direction too. Flush door handles give the sides a clean look, and the X-Line trims add unique bumpers and side sills with Piano Black trim and dark gunmetal accents. New colours include Terrain Brown and Frost Blue.

Wheel sizes step up through the lineup:

  • 16-inch alloys on the LX
  • 18-inch alloys on the EX and EX Premium
  • 19-inch alloys on the X-Line and X-Line Limited

More Room for People and Cargo

The added size shows up inside. The new Seltos offers more cabin space and more cargo space than the outgoing model. Cargo volume measures 786 L behind the second row and 1,817 L with the rear seats folded, which leaves plenty of room for weekend bags, sports gear or a big grocery run.

Comfort features climb with each trim. The EX adds Sofino leather seats and a heated steering wheel. The EX Premium adds ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats and a driver’s seat with a premium relaxation function. The X-Line trims bring their own X-Line interior.

More Screens and Smarter Tech

Technology takes a big step forward. The Seltos now uses Kia’s latest ccNC infotainment system with over-the-air update capability, and buyers can choose up to nearly 30 inches of combined screen area. The X-Line trims feature an integrated display that links the touchscreen, a 5-inch climate display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every trim. USB-C ports serve both rows, with the rear charging ports built into the front seatbacks for easy reach. Kia Connect is standard as well, and the X-Line Limited adds a head-up display, Harman Kardon premium audio and Digital Key.

New-to-Seltos Safety Features

The 2027 Seltos borrows driver assistance features from newer Kia models such as the EV9, EV4 and EV5. New to the Seltos, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning and Forward and Reverse Parking Distance Warning are now standard.

Other standard features include Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High-Beam Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. The X-Line Limited adds a Surround View Monitor and Kia’s Blind-Spot View Monitor, which shows a video feed of the blind spot on the digital display when you use the turn signal.

Three Powertrain Choices

The second-generation Seltos offers three ways to drive:

2.0 L 4-cylinder. Found on the LX, EX and EX Premium, this engine makes 147 hp and 132 lb-ft and pairs with Kia’s Intelligent Variable Transmission.

1.6 L turbocharged 4-cylinder. Reserved for the X-Line and X-Line Limited, it makes 190 hp and 195 lb-ft and uses an 8-speed automatic transmission with manual control.

Hybrid. A first for the Seltos, the hybrid pairs a 1.6 L 4-cylinder hybrid engine with a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. It is expected to arrive by the end of the year, with front-wheel drive and available e-AWD, a Kia first on a hybrid SUV.

All-wheel drive with a locking differential is standard on the LX AWD, EX, EX Premium, X-Line and X-Line Limited.
